Love my Parelli original carrot sticks
12/15/2016 12:32:44 pm by Pamela S from US

This is my third purchase of the original style carrot stick. I bought my first one in 2006 as a brand new Parelli member and my second one several years later. Both have savvy strings that can easily be taken off if needed. They have held up well and are still in good shape as they were when first purchased. They are very effective tools when I play with my horses or in just routine handling. It is my go to piece of equipment, especially when I handle my right brain, left brain extrovert thoroughbred cross mare. She can go right brain in an instant and having the carrot stick with me is crucial as she can get very nervous. The weight of the stick does not bother me. I had a light weight generic stick given to me and I gave it away as it did not work the same way. That is part of why it is so effective as it has some heft to it. I highly recommend the carrot stick and savvy string as part of your basic horsemanship tool kit!

Awesome Carrot stick!

I absolutely LOVE that you can now get these carrot sticks with a leather tip instead of the rubber. I went through several before with the rubber tips (1 black, two pink, and one blue) The leather tip is really durable, Even though I don't condition the leather often. Every once in a while I use Horseman's one step conditioner to condition the tip of my Carrot stick. I use this nearly every time when I am with my horse, from Liberty play, to online, to Freestyle riding. :) I Highly recommend this stick. :D

Rubber Tip not durable

I bought a new purple carrot stick last winter to match my purple halter. I did not use it much but less than a year after I bought it the rubber tip came flying off one day while using it. I glued it back on with super glue. A couple of sessions later the rubber tip broke off completely. The base was still attached where I had glued it. The stick is now non-functional. I have had two carrot sticks with the leather tip for several years and have had no problem with them. Get the leather tip if you don't want to have to replace the carrot stick shortly. I have asked for a replacement; I will report what they decide to do. Seems that others have had the same problem.

YES!!!! It's fantastic to have colour choice - love the colours - would be good to personalise with say first name too - I've lost a couple of carrot sticks in the past! Can't wait to get a pink one!!

Love the new colors! Just wish there was burgandy too - to match the burgandy halter and lead.

Just an opinion

I have used both vintage and rubber tipped sticks for about a decade. The only problem you have with sticks are the tips. Do yourself a favor - get the vintage one. leather lasts, rubber will be torn off. Sorry guys, it's just how it is, At least the good golf club handles are kept in this version.

Nice but not perfect

I love the colors, and the stick holds up well, but the rubber tip came off because my gelding just leans on the stick. I guess its time for a new carrot stick tip.

new carrot stick

I got a blue carrot stick for Christmas last year and have gotten another one since then. I love the colors, but I am very dissapointed in the quality of the rubber tips. My vintage carrot stick lasted for 7 years before it broke and my new carrot stick tips have not even lasted a year. I have already glued them on several times and one of them actually ripped off. I wish Parelli had colored carrot sticks with the leather end.

Rubber tips

I have had my old orange carrot stick with the leather tip for 3 years and it is fine, but I loved the new colors so I got a pink new carrot stick with the rubber tip last year and it did not last very long. The rubber tip is breaking in half. I really would like to have the color sticks with the leather tips. Please consider maybe doing both.

Needs Improvement

I left my pink stick out in the paddock all day in the sun and the color faded out to a faint whitish/bleached pink color. So one half of the stick is bleached out and the side that was lying on the grass is still bright pink. I haven't had any problems with the rubber tips on any of my 3 sticks that others have reported. These are extremely heavy though and I prefer the Kid Stick and don't use the full sized sticks anymore.
